Moving In

Pre-visits

Prospective new tenants are initially invited to have a look around Oak Ridge and informed about the service provided. If requested, arrangements would be made to return for dinner, allowing the prospective new tenant to meet the other tenants and staff. This also allows the current tenants to be involved in the decision-making process of who should move in to their house.

Further visits and overnight visits can also be arranged if requested. The number of visits required depends very much on the individual concerned and this is respected at Oak Ridge. These pre-visits are very much encouraged as they enable new tenants to interact with existing tenants.

During pre-visits prospective tenants are encouraged to become involved in the activities undertaken by existing Oak Ridge tenants. New tenants will have the opportunity to go along to the Falcon group, which develops music, art and drama skills, The Otium, where tenants can swim, use the gym and attend the exercise classes, and the Monday Club, which is a social group for adults with learning disabilities. Tenants are also encouraged to access local community facilities including pubs, restaurants, cinema, Rollerbowl etc. Tenants are encouraged to continue with their own personal and religious activities and to continue to visit friends and family.

Prospective tenants are also informed of the various support and information groups such as Advocacy Highland, Health and Happiness, Enable, People First and LIG, which many existing tenants at Oak Ridge attend.

Who moves in ?

A meeting is held between the General Manager, Manager and the tenants in the house where the vacancy has arisen to discuss potential new tenants and come to a decision as to who moves in. The new tenant is advised.

The tenant then has the opportunity to make any changes to their bedroom, decorating it in the colours of their choosing, making it individual and personal to them.

Following this

Admission form is completed; a personal file is established; the new tenant is given the opportunity to choose their key worker; a key worker is allocated.

An induction is carried out shortly after moving in. This can take a variable amount of time depending on the needs and abilities of the tenant. At all times during the induction and settling in process, support staff at Oak Ridge endeavor to ensure the tenant feels safe, secure and comfortable.

A personal support plan and risk assessment is drawn up over the weeks following admission.

An external review is held after six weeks to review the placement at Oak Ridge and ensure the tenant is settling in. At this point any difficulties or issues are discussed. This review is usually organised by the tenants Social Worker who was involved in the admission process.
